I’ve reached my goal. Now What?

There’s no diet endgame. Time will not standstill and life will not be perfect when you reach your goal weight. Your body won’t register that you’ve reached your goal and lock itself in at that magic number. You will never stop gaining and/or losing weight. You will always be in a state of gaining or losing muscle and/or fat.

There’s no fitness endgame. There’s not a mysterious mechanism that secures the capacity of your heart and lungs and freezes your muscle fibers when they’ve reached their optimal state of “toned.”  Your lung capacity, heart capacity, and muscle mass will always be in a state of improvement or decline.

People who are not concerned with their body fat, muscle mass and overall physical health exist. I believe I might even know a couple of them. But, they’re not reading this, and they don’t understand us.

It seems like every year, when my birthday starts to creep up, I say to myself, “This year I’m going to get in incredible shape, the best shape of my life!”

Last year, when I turned 40, I decided to actually do it. I set a goal to compete in a figure competition. And, that’s what I did.

Now I’m closing in on 41. And the funny thing is that I want to get in even better shape this year. I’m shooting for, “the best shape of my life.” Therefore, when I reach my goal next year, I will be in better shape than I got into this year.

I want to compete again in June 2018. I have new (fitness and diet goals) and plans now that I know what I’m getting into and what my competition looks like in “real” life.
